Nautica O2O The Oregon Coast: The Bergstrom Family
We met the Bergstrom family in Hood River, Oregon as we were exploring the Oregon Coast for our Nautica Ocean to Ocean tour. Lars, his wife Kass and sons, Pelle and Leif, all love to surf, windsurf, sail and ski, usually together as a family. As a fifth generation carpenter, Lars is a true craftsman and shapes his sustainable surfboards out of wood that comes from the acres of forest land he owns that overlooks the Pacific Ocean at Cannon Beach. Each of Lars’ handmade boards are etched with his company name, 42 Surfboards, in sustainably harvested abalone. He also has a PhD in Environmental Science and a Masters in Hazardous Waste Management. Lars and 42 Surfboards have been involved with many charities connected to surfing and marine environment, including 1% For The Planet, Surfrider Foundation, Sea Shepherd, and SurfAid. In the winter months, Lars and family travel to the shores of Hawaii, California and other wave-crashing coastlines where they surf and enjoy the water.
